CDS Bipin Rawat IAF chopper crash: 13 out of 14 on board confirmed dead

An Air Force helicopter, with CDS General Bipin Rawat and some of his family members on board, crashed in Tamil Nadu’s Coonoor on Wednesday.

The fatal crash left 13 people dead. A total of 14 people were on board the chopper. However, there is still no information on General Bipin Rawat.

When asked what could have led to the IAF chopper crash, Ex-Mi-I7 pilot Amitabh Ranjan said, “The main culprit has always been weather. The weather in the hills has been nasty. Weather could be one of the factors; another could be a technical defect.”

Defence minister Rajnath Singh has briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Indian Air Force chopper crash.

He provided complete details of available information about the accident. His brief included details of the crash and response measures taken. Sources from the defence minister’s office said Rajnath Singh is monitoring the situation.
