The Kashmir Radar, March 6: Srinagar police arrested two youth on Sunday after receiving a complaint of stalking and harrassment in Dal Gate Srinagar by a girl (name withheld) on Saturday evening.

Soon after this unfortunate incident took place, the girl took to Twitter and shared her painful ordeal and the sequence of events that took place on the day she was stalked, harassed and intimidated by two boys riding a Scooty.

Here is the complete thread shared by the girl on her Twitter account:

“In a disturbing incident, today at Dalgate Srinagar these two boys (video posted on Twitter) were continuously moving their scooty nearest to me. Which after a couple of minutes turned into eve teasing. Upon questioning their intention, these two young boys made lewd comments and gestures.” Tweeted the girl soon after the incident.

She went on to write that, causing considerable distress. Considering their age I asked them whether they’ve basic manners or not in reply to which the rider said “Mai roz thaane mai hota hu, karo jo karna hai”. The moral of this post is to reach their family so that these two boys won’t exploit the environment of Kashmir further. It was a disgusting & indeed a disturbing incident. I was in proper hijab, wearing my Pheran, my face was covered with mask & only eyes were visible. Is our kashmir Slowly turning into Delhi?

The girl after posting about the incident on social media also approached the Nehru Park police post with a written application.

Later, an FIR was lodged against the two accused and they were arrested, by the police. Their vehicle has also been seized and the youths will be produced in court for getting their police remand.

Hours after both the accused were arrested by the police, Regional Transport Officer Kashmir ordered for immediate suspension of the Registration Mark of the two-wheeler used in the commission of the offence.

As per the order issued by Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, RTO Kashmir, “In view of the complaints on social media and other verified reports and also in view of the fact that an FIR number 35/2023, Dated 05-03-2023 under Section 341, 506, 509, 294, 354D of IPC has been registered in the Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, I am of the considered opinion that Motor Cycle Without Gear (MCWOG) bearing Registration Mark JK01AG-5814 (Owned by Mr. Peerzada Sajad Arif son of Haji Shareef-u-Din, resident of Kwajapora, Srinagar) has been used in commission of the cognizable offence and an act which is likely to cause nuisance and danger to the public and has, therefore, failed to comply with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and the Rules made there under.

“Therefore, in exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 53 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, the Registration Mark JK01AG-5814 is, hereby, suspended with immediate effect”, the order reads.
