Valley Girl Outshines In International Conference; Bagged First Prize

Safiya Mehraj from CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu & Kashmir, Srinagar representing Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Parry’s Lab (Clinical Microbiology and PK/PD) bagged first prize in poster presentation in “2nd Annual Primeasia University International E-conference” which was held on January 30, 2022 virtually on Zoom platform.

The theme of the conference for year-2022 was “Aspects of Microbiology in Healthcare Sectors.”

After selection in preliminary rounds 150 researchers and prominent scientists from 25 countries participated in 7 different fields of Microbiology viz. Immunology, Virology and Infectious Disease, Genetics & Bioinformatics, Clinical Microbiology & Antimicrobial Resistance, Microbial Biotechnology & Vaccine Development, Food & Industrial Microbiology, Agricultural & Veterinary, and Environmental Microbiology & Microbial Ecology.

She bagged first prize in poster presentation in the category  “Clinical Microbiology & Antimicrobial Resistance (CM-AMR)” where she presented a poster on deadly infectious disease “Tuberculosis” {TB is the 13th leading cause of death and the second leading infectious killer after COVID-19 (above HIV/AIDS)}.

She was also adjudged the best speaker of overall seven categories and got first prize in overall categories which includes: “Clinical Microbiology & Antimicrobial Resistance (CM-AMR)”, “Immunology, Virology and Infectious Diseases (IVID), Genetics & Bioinformatics(GB)”, “Food & Industrial Microbiology(FIM)”, “Agricultural &Veterinary Microbiology(AVM) and Microbial Biotechnology & Vaccine Development (MB-VD)”, “Environmental Microbiology & Microbial Ecology (EM-ME)”.

Safiya dedicated her achievement to her Supervisor (Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Parry), parents and lab mates.
