Man holds people hostage in synagogue, wants release of Aafia Siddiqui

Police in Colleyville, Texas, are “currently conducting SWAT operations” at a local synagogue where authorities say a man has taken a rabbi and possibly other people hostage to ask for the release of Aafia Siddiqui from federal prison.

Aafia Siddiqui may have been an unfamiliar name to many before Saturday, before a man claiming she was his sister took people hostage at a Colleyville synagogue and demanded to speak with her.

Siddiqui became the first female arrested after 9/11, and she was convicted on charges related to the attempted murder and assault of United States officers and employees in Afghanistan in 2008.

ABC News quoted a U.S. official as saying the hostage-taker in Colleyville claimed to be Siddiqui’s brother. It’s unclear if the man is biologically related to Siddiqui. People who have taken up her cause have referred to her as their sister.

Hostage taker name is Muhammad Siddiqui who is demanding release of his sister Aafia Siddiqui who is sentenced on terror charges for 86 years for trying to kill US Military and FBI agents in Afghanistan.

White House is monitoring the hostage situation at a Colleyville, Texas synagogue. FBI and Texas Department of Public Safety are assisting a hostage situation at the Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, according to Colleyville Police Sgt. Dara Nelson.

Local Law enforcement is still trying to confirm the identity of the hostage taker. It’s been more than 5 hours that the hostage situation continues. Some reports say hostage taker is not the brother of Pakistani terrorists but could be a British-Pakistani or a Palestinian.
