Saima Ubayd and Ubayd Hafiz, a couple hailing From Dalgate Srinagar Kashmir are two enthusiastic fitness trainers by profession.
Saima Ubayd who’s also the first female powerlifter from Kashmir got engaged to Ubayd Hafiz, a fitness trainer that she says, “was a lucky omen”. Ubayd guided and trained her during the weight loss training sessions.
“I started learning powerlifting skills, as she says ‘it has many benefits for women’. “I lost a good amount of weight before marriage and after marriage due to pregnancy, I gained the weight again. I was advised by the doctors that it might be difficult for me to conceive after marriage, but due to regular workouts and proper healthy diet, the health issues that I had earlier, started disappearing.” Said Saima While talking to our correspondent Saqib Manzoor.
As per Saima, it was her husband who taught her how to train the women folk in gym and how to motivate them to be health conscious as there are several females who do not want to get trained by male trainers.
For the first time power-lifting competition for women was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Powerlifting Association. Her husband who was declared’ Powerman 2020 of Kashmir. Her husband suggested her to participate in the event and luckily, she was the first lady to lift the weight in the event and became first powerlifter woman of Kashmir.
She has also done certification in nutrition as well and now she guides and trains other female fitness enthusiasts in the area and presently, she has more than 70 female clients whom she trains online.
Now talking about the journey of Ubayd Hafiz, husband of Saima Ubayd who started his journey in the year 2005, the time when there was no help from any association that could have guided him for competitions.
In tho year 2009, he participated in ‘Deadlift competition’ and won Silver medal in the competition which took place in Jammu at that time. He has also participated in several competitions after that. “There was no recognisation or help from the government or anyone” he claimed.
After completing his graduation, he was offered to work in TV serials and movies where he performed some short roles in few serials and movies as well. In 2014, he accidently dislocated both of his shoulders and was bedridden for 3 months and Doctors suggested him “no gym” for next coming 4-5 years.
“During my treatment I studied about injuries and did a course in physio exercises. I implemented the studies on myself first and my joint mobility and strength was coming back”,said ubayd Hafiz.
In 2016 he switched to bodybuilding and participated in a bodybuilding competition where he lacked a lot of stuff. He went to mumbai for training and met IFBB pro Junaid Kaliwala and IFBB pro Manoj Patil, who guided him for the contest preparation and after few months he became a trainer in one of the best gyms in mumbai city. On his return to Kashmir he started his contest preparation for Mr. Kashmir 2017 and bagged 2nd place in his category.
In 2018, he participated in a powerlifting competition and won Gold. In the same year he participated in Mr. Kashmir competition and bagged 3rd place.
“I had only a month for preparation as I was getting married that year. After my Marriage I participated in another Powerlifting Competition where I got Gold and then after a few months I was offered a job as a Head trainer in one of the best fitness centre in Srinagar where I served for 1 year and 6 months.” Said Ubayd.
Both Ubayd and Saima are curently working as freelancers for both online and personal trainer as well. They both love this sport and want to help people who have lost hope in achieving their fitness goals. “ We appeal youth of Kashmir, especially their parents to encourage their children to get more into sports and stay Away from drug abuse.” Said the couple.
