Brutal Mutilation: Leopard Found Dead in Budgam, Private Parts and Nails Missing

A leopard carcass discovered in Ichgam, Budgam, has sparked outrage after locals reported the animal’s private parts and nails had been deliberately severed. Wildlife officials confirmed finding the carcass and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of death.

“A team recovered the carcass and transported it to Dachigam for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” stated a Wildlife Department official. This incident follows numerous leopard sightings across the central Kashmir district.

Adding to the horror, locals claim the mutilated body displayed clear signs of deliberate harm, with both the leopard’s private parts and nails removed.

This act constitutes a serious offense under the Indian Penal Code, with Sections 428 and 429 outlining strict punishments for killing, poaching, maiming, poisoning, or torturing animals. Offenders face potential rigorous imprisonment for up to five years, alongside fines or both.

“This is very shocking,” expressed a local resident. The authorities have assured a thorough investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward.
