Ganderbal: District Development Commissioner Ganderbal chairs DDMA meeting, reviews winter preparedness of departments.
In view of the forecast about moderate to heavy snowfall across Kashmir division from 19th January, District Development Commissioner Ganderbal Dr. Piyush Singla today chaired a high level meeting of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to review the preparedness of departments in the district.
During the meeting, preparedness with regard to snow clearance of roads and bye lanes, traffic management, restoration of water supply schemes, pre and post disaster risk reduction strategies, rescue plan and availability of men and machinery were discussed threadbare.
Meeting also reviewed the lists of procurement of necessary gadgets, safety equipment and availability of machinery for the prompt response towards any natural calamity.
The DDC directed the concerned to stay active to the weather prediction for the next few days and ensure that the action plan for restoration of basic services is implemented in synergy and coordination with all the line departments on real time basis for which control room at the district and sub-district headquarters will be kept functional 24×7.
While reviewing the readiness of men and machinery, the concerned officers informed that the men and machinery is fully geared up to meet any eventuality on account of inclement weather. They said that adequate number of snow clearance machines and bulldozers have been deployed in advance at specific locations across the district.
Regarding power, XEN PDD said that the department has already pruned trees in the vicinity of transmission lines and there will be minimal disruption in power supply due to snowfall. Moreover, adequate buffer stock of transformers is available in the district.
Dr. Singla directed the heads of department to remain available for the public to solve their problems and added that the district administration will remain available at the doorstep of people so that they do not face any inconvenience in the harsh winter.
The DDC added that administration will follow zero tolerance approach towards non-serious officials and directed them not to leave the station without prior intimation besides directed for cancellations of all leaves of the officials till further orders from district administration.
ADDC Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal, SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, ADC Ganderbal, Naseer Ahmad Wani, ACR Ganderbal , Joint Director Planning, Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, CEO SDA, Executive Engineers from R&B, PHE, PDD,PMGSY, officers from 118Bn CRPF ,5RR, 24RR, SDRF and other concerned were also present in the meeting.
