The government Sunday declared entire Kashmir province as ‘red zone’ ahead of the third phase of lockdown starting May 4.
Announcing the decision on the official twitter handle of Director Information, it said all districts of Kashmir province including Jammu, Kathua, and Samba districts of Jammu province had been declared red zones.
Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban, and Rajouri have been declared orange zones while Doda, Kishtwar, and Poonch districts have been declared green zones.
The new classification of districts is contrary to what was earlier issued by the Government of India (GoI) in which only four districts of Kashmir were declared red zones, five districts were declared orange zones, and one district was declared a green zone.
Officials said keeping in view too many red zones in the area, the administration decided not to go with a classification drafted by the Union Health Ministry and put entire Valley under red zone category.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole had said that given little difference between the red and the orange zones, entire Kashmir would be treated as red zone.
