Shopian: The NSS Unit of, IM, Government Degree College, Shopian in collaboration with the District Administration Shopian under the aegis of College Debates and Seminar Committee organised World No Tobacco Day under the theme “Tobacco: Threat to our Environment” today on 31/05/2022.
The Programme started with the welcome address by Prof. Mahmood Ahmad Tak in which he welcomed all the guests from Disrtict Civil and Police Adminstration and the guest speaker Dr. Syema Sidiq Divisional Coordinator Kashmir Tobacco Control from Directorate of Health Services Kashmir.
The guest Speaker Dr. Syema Sidiq gave a detailed power point presentation on effects of Tobbaco and Cigarette Smoking. She highlighted the various types of health hazards associated with use of tobacco products. Towards the end of the programme the participants administered an oath wherein they pledged that they will not consume any form of tobacco products henceforth.
Prof. Sayar Yaseen Programmme officer NSS in his adress threw light on the importance of education and awareness in controlling different social menaces like Ciggrate Smoking.
Prof.Bashir Ahmad Dar, Principal IM, Government Degree College, Shopian thanked district administration for taking keen interest in this programme and also declared the campus as smoking free zone.
The vote of Thanks to the house was presented by Prof. Shahnawaz Ahmad Khanday, Convener Debates and Seminar Committee in which he thanked all the stake holders of the seminar.
The lecture Session was followed by an Awareness Rally which was flagged off by the Principal of the College along with Additional District Development Commissioner Mansoor Hussain, accompanied by District Information Officer Showkat Hussain Ganaie, Dy.SP Hq Tariq Ahmad, and A.D Planning Towseef Ahmad Malik from District Administration.
The Rally started from College campus with officials and students carrying banners and Palacards displaying the theme of the day.The rally moved through the market and culminating at the main through fare of the town. The programme was moderated by Dr. Umar Farooq Assistant Professor Botany.
