Srinagar, 24 May, TKR: MGNREGA employees have given a protest call on 26th May in Srinagar to project their genuine and long pending demands.
“MGNREGA employees including Programme officers, MIS operators and Gram Rozgar Sahayak’s will register a peaceful protest demonstration in Srinagar. Our prime focus of the protest is to again press the goverment about our genuine demands which have been denied to us since past 13 years.” Said Khan Aijaz, the leader of the association.
“Initially the protest call has been given for one day only. We will definitely continue to protest and wont join our duties if our demands are not met.” Said another employee.
Pertinently, MGNREGA employees have been working in the Rural Development Department since thirteen years on contractual basis and on meagre wages. Goverment has so far framed more than five committees to look into the demands and grievances of the employees, but nothing substantial has been done for them hitherto.
