Kupwara: A complete shutdown is being observed in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday against the 1994 massacre in which 27 civilians were killed in alleged army firing.
Authorities have deployed forces personnel in strength to prevent any protest march by the people.
Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for shutdown in the town.
On 27 January 1994, 27 persons fell to the bullets of army men in Kupwara town.
The survivors had claimed that the massacre was carried out by the soldiers to punish the people for observing shutdown on January 26 (India’s Republic Day).
