Srinagar 26 June: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Councillor Waheed Dar invites all the councilors irrespective of the party lines to join anti-Corruption movement to work together for the bright future of Srinagar city.
In a statement, Councillor Waheed Dar says, “we want to make the anti-corruption movement broad-based and representative and for that purpose we invite all the councilors to join the movement.
There are no camps in this movement. It is a movement towards transparency, accountability and good governance”.
According to the sources, it is Waheed Dar, Corporator from Zakura who started an “anti-corruption movement” in SMC and requested councilors to join the movement. He also convinced the former deputy-Mayor who later joined the movement.
The first leg of the anti-corruption movement was to outset the former Mayor for his corrupt and arrogant behaviour. The next step will be electing the right candidate for the chair of Mayor who will uphold the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance of the movement.
It was Waheed Dar who proposed the no-confidence motion against the former Mayor, Junaid Mattu and it was supported by councilors irrespective of the party lines.
Waheed Dar said, “It is the time for all the councilors to come together and kill the menace of corruption. In our religion, corruption is a big sin. It is a secular movement. I am making efforts along with the support of like-minded councilors to make SMC corruption free.”
He further added that if the councilors belonging to the former Mayor, Juanid Mattu’s Camp are ready to work for the bright future of SMC they are invited whole-heartedly to join the movement and make SMC corruption free. “If Mayor or deputy Mayor in future showed no respect for the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance we can pass vote of no-confidence motion anytime”, he added.
