Muharram processions suspended in Kashmir

Anjuman Shari Shia suspended muharram processions, including Ashoora, in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. This was revealed by Aga Syed Mujtaba, son of President Shari Shia Aga Syed Hasan Almosvi Alsafvi during a press conference in the capital of Kashmir, Srinagar.

“We appeal to believers not to take out the muharram procession after the Covid-19 crisis. It is a difficult and heartbreaking decision, but we have no option to keep the Covid pandemic in view, ”said Aga Syed Mujtaba.

Muharram is followed by Muslims with abstinence and prayers to mourn the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) at the Battle of Karbala in the 7th century. This is the first and one of the holy months of the Islamic calendar.

He said it takes an hour to follow the letter and spirit of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). “It is undesirable to confront an administration that has already asked people to follow the SOP.
