Srinagar: In a bizarre incident of its kind, a South Kashmir resident was arrested and later bailed out in the Nowhatta area of old city here where he was allegedly trying to ‘bury’ his infant alive.

The person was identified as Manzoor Hussain Banyari, son of Misri Banyari, a resident of Shamsipora Shopian.

The person was caught by the locals and handed over to Police Station Nowhatta after he was trying to abandon his infant.

“The baby had some congenital deformities and the said person told police that he was very poor and could not treat his newly born baby. The case stands registered in police station Nowhatta under FIR number 72/2018 under Section 317 RPC,” Shah said.
