Pulwama, Aug, 2: Arshad Magray, a young cricketer from Pulwama’s Qasbayar area utilised his pocket money to develop a turf in a cricket field at Musarmarg cricket ground.

Literally an uphill task and an almost impossible dream to achieve, Arshad along with his friends developed a cricket field in the midst of lush green pine trees.

“The idea of constructing a turf on lines of international cricketing turfs can prove helpful to the young cricketers who face hurdles when they play on cricket grounds with no synthetic turfs or mats. I want them to play on the turf not on the mats, because playing continuously on mats has ruined our talent.” Said Arshad Magray while talking to The Kashmir Radar.

“I talked to my fellow cricketers about this idea but the financial challenge proved to be a hurdle in the begining. Later I decided to utilize my pocket money to get all the required material for the turf. Then we were faced by one more change of sending loaded vehicles into the ground which was quite impossible because of the tough terrain, as there is no road connectivity to the ground from the nearby village. Then we utilized the services of laborers to take the material into the ground which took us more than three weeks and finally Alhamdulillah we are all set to give it a green signal.” Said Arshad Magray.

Arshad Magray is a renowned cricketer know for his deadly swing and has played various national leagues where he proved his mettle.

Back home Arshad doesn’t want other local prayers to face the problem he faced after he played on well developed turfs on national level.
