IPL 2022, MI vs SRH: Umran Malik came up with a match-winning spell of 3/23 to take his tally to 21 wickets. The SunRisers pacer became only the 2nd fast bowler after Kagiso Rabada to breach the 20-wicket mark in the season.

SunRisers Hyderabad Umran Malik achieved a new landmark in his nascent and flourishing Indian Premier League career on Tuesday, May 17 after he went past the 20-wicket mark in IPL 2022.

Umran Malik broke into the top 5 of the IPL 2022 wicket-takers list as he took his tally to 21 during a match-winning spell for SRH against Mumbai Indians in a must-win match at the Wankhede Stadium.

Umran Malik picked up 3 wickets and gave away just 23 runs in a match where more than 380 runs were scored as he overcame a poor first over to intimidate the Mumbai batters with raw pace.

Umran Malik became the youngest Indian bowler to pick up 20 or more wickets in an IPL season, breaking Jasprit Bumrah’s record from 2017. Umran also became the 2nd pacer after Kagiso Rabada to go past the 20-wicket mark in IPL 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah – 23 years and 165 days in IPL 2017

RP Singh – 23 years and 166 days in IPL 2009

Pragyan Ojha – 23 yeas and 225 days in IPL 2010.

Umran is 4th in the list of bowlers with most wickets in IPL 2022, 3 behind leader Yuzvendra Chahal.

Umran on Tuesday brought SunRisers Hyderabad back into the contest after a 95-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in their 194-run chase. Umran sent back Ishan and then returned to pick up the wickets f Daniel Sams and Tilak Varma in the same over.
