Amir Firdous, a 20 year old sketch artist is yet another unsung hero from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, who not only portrays his heart out, but is an expert in sitters too.

Grooming his passion since his childhood, Amir has sketched world’s renowned personalities which earned him a short lived fame that faded away because of lesser media attention at the peak of his career.

“I have been sketching since my school days, I have several awards and certificates in the gallery which I started receiving since my childhood, but the support I needed from the goverment was never given to me. I am certainly not hungry of fame, all I want is a little recognition.” Said Amir, while talking to “The Kashmir Radar.”

“When I feel like sending out a message to the public, I use my pen which speaks for me. I am in love with what I do.” Said Amir.

“I am not an Instagram celebrity [laughing] and I don’t know how to become one. I see hundreds of people having a huge fan base for literally doing nothing. This is not any sort of jealousy, but a fact that I always wanted to put forth. There are hundreds of artist like me who deserve attention, who deserve a decent following but unfortunately our society behaves in a quite un- understandable way.” Said Amir.

Artists in other parts of the world are looked upon as heroes for obvious reasons. Our society is always accused of bias by the deserving artists.

Our fact finding team randomly visited the Instagram profiles of a few artists from Jammu and Kashmir and found that none among them had more than 1500 followers.
Later a few “good for nothing” so called Instagram celebrity accounts were visited and results were shocking. Some people had more than 50,000 followers and when their timelines were checked, all we found were a few copied videos and picture and a few live Sessions discussing the worlds most useless topics including, “ask me anything, I will answer.”

Amir Firdous has sketched some master pieces worth watching and worth hanging in ones gallery. He needs our support.
