LG Addresses IUST Convocation, Commends University’s Notable Accomplishments

Awantipora: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), addressed the 3rd Convocation of the university at Awantipora today. He congratulated the students and appreciated the university’s achievements in promoting gender equality, noting that 22 of the 27 gold medal recipients were girls. He emphasized the importance of educating women in contributing to societal progress, economic growth, and sustainability.

The Lieutenant Governor commended the role of parents and teachers in shaping the youth’s future and exhorted the students to innovate and work towards a bright future. He stressed the need for education to create higher values and independent thinking in students.

He also emphasized strengthening industry-academia connections, providing collaborative spaces for startups, and driving education through creativity rather than rigid curricula. The Lieutenant Governor congratulated the Vice Chancellor, faculty members, and students for their achievements in academics, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, an eminent nuclear scientist, congratulated the students and encouraged them to lead successful careers and contribute to nation-building. Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST, presented the university report, highlighting its achievements.

During the convocation, 27 students received gold medals, 53 students received merit certificates, and 1056 students were awarded degrees for UG/PG programs. Additionally, 19 students received their Ph.D. degree certificates. The event was attended by senior officials, faculty members, students, and their parents.
