An unknown man who tried to murder Sheikh Baleelah, Imam of Kaaba was apprehended after the Swift action of security guards protecting the imam.
The man approached with a weapon to take the life of the Khateeb in Masjid al Haram during Friday prayers. The action from security officials was swift.
A video that was widely circulated on social media shows a man running towards the pulpit where the Imam of Kaaba was delivering Friday sermon.
The man was immediately apprehended by four to five security personnel. However the reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.
The police have taken the attacker into custody, and the investigations are underway. Saudi police did not comment about the identity and the ethnicity of the attacker.
