Crime against women: Man arrested for defaming girl in South Kashmir

Police on Wednesday said that it arrested a person for defaming a girl by making a audio clip viral on social media in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.

In a statement to GNS, the police said that acting tough against the crime against women, Police in Awantipora have arrested a person involved in making an audio clip and later viral the said audio clip on social media to defame/insult modesty of a girl.

The spokesperson further said that today one girl (name withheld) lodged a written complaint at Police Station Tral alleging therein that one accused person namely Rajinder Singh resident of Gudpora, Tral has recorded her conversation with him and made it viral on social media – thereby intimidated her and insulted her modesty.

Accordingly, a case FIR No.71/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tral and investigation has been initiated. During the course of investigation, officers arrested the accused person involved in the commission of crime. He has been shifted to Police Station Tral where he remains in custody, they said.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding any anti-social elements in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in inimical elements will be dealt as per law, reads the statement.(GNS)
