Nassau County Stadium to be Demolished After T20 World Cup, Criticized for Unpredictable Pitches

The Nassau County stadium, which hosted the highly-anticipated India vs Pakistan match on June 9, is set to be dismantled after the conclusion of the New York leg of the T20 World Cup. The stadium, built in under 100 days, has faced criticism for its drop-in pitches, which have been deemed unpredictable and occasionally dangerous.

According to a New York Times report, the stadium will be disassembled after the final match on June 12, and the parts will be shipped back to Las Vegas for another golf event. The venue, which had a capacity of 34,000, hosted four matches featuring India, including a warm-up game against Bangladesh on June 1.

The drop-in pitches, which were grown in Florida and installed in the stadium, have been widely criticized for their inconsistent bounce, resulting in low scores in the first two matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) acknowledged the issue, stating that the “pitches have not played consistently.”

The stadium’s grandstands were borrowed from Las Vegas’s Formula 1 race and professional golf events. Despite the criticism, the venue will leave behind a world-class cricket pitch, a legacy of the T20 World Cup’s stop in New York.
