A Western Disturbance is currently passing over J&K. Under its influence, rain/snow is likely to commence from today evening (starting from higher reaches).
The weather system will have huge moisture supply from Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea.
On 04th Jan, light to moderate rain/snow is expected at most places.
There are less chances of snowfall in plains on this day, rains will dominate. Albeit chances of light snowfall in Shopian and one or two other places can’t be ruled out.
In Jammu region, light to moderate rainfall is expected.
On 05th Jan, moderate rain is expected in plains, while moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in higher reaches.
There are also some chances of snowfall in plains, however, snowfall will be wet/heavy in case it occurs i.e., snowflakes of higher density (which is also termed as ‘Aabe Sheen’ in Kashmiri language.)
In Jammu region, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, with snowfall in higher reaches.
Compared to Kashmir, intensity of weather system will be more in Jammu region on this day.
Improvement in weather is expected from 06th afternoon.
Day temperature is likely to stay 2 – 10°C below the normal.
Day temperature in Kashmir region on 05 Jan will stay below 5.5°C at most places.
Another Western Disturbance is likely to affect J&K this weekend.
