Pulwama: The MGNREGA staff of block Kakapora Pulwama even after serving the remotest villages of the district during COVID-19 crisis are without salary for eight months.
The employees working under the centrally sponsored flagship programme of this block have not been paid a single penny out of the administrative expenses they receive their salary from just because a DRW who is having an unsettled issue with the department has put a stay on one of the salary accounts of the department.
“The bank account that has been put under a stay by the honorable court is the same account from which our salary gets disbursed” said one of the protesting employee.
“We are without salary for eight months now, serving the department in whatever field they direct us to, be it MGNREGA, SBM, PMAY and the emergency duty for COVID-19 crisis, many a times we requested our Block Development Officer to write back to the court for seeking the change of account number but to our surprise his delay tactics is out of ones understanding.” Said another employee holding a placard “Release Our Wages” in his hand.
“The DRW has put the stay on our account number specifically on the directions of some vested interests working in the department, as the permanent staff of the block is receiving salary on monthly basis without any delay” said a female protesting employee wishing anonymity.
It is pertinent to mention that MGNREGA supporting staff has been working in the department of Rural Development Since nine years on meager wages.
