Srinagar: Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Monday said that militants have “misused” masjids (mosques) in Valley and that everybody should “condemn such acts”.
Writing on the official Police handle of twitter, IGP wrote “militants have misused mosques for militant attacks i.e, Pampore on 19/6/20, Sopore on 1/7/20 & Shopian on 9/4/21. General public, Masjid Intizamia , Civil Societies & Media should condemn such acts, ends the tweet. (GNS)
It is pertinent to mention that several encounters in Kashmir have seen militants taking shelter in mosques while trying to escape from the goverment forces during an encounter.
In a very recent incident, militants after escaping from residential houses during an encounter in Shopian entered into mosque which forced the goverment forces to partially damage the mosque to eliminate the militants.
